CELEBRATING THE FEAST OF ST. STEPHEN, THE FIRST DEACON AND MARTYR

This year's Christmas Eve Service will include a special commemoration of the Feast of St. Stephen, the first Deacon of the Church and the first martyr, which falls on December 24th.

The Feast of St. Stephen is an important day in the Armenian Church - it is a day to honor all deacons of the Church for their service and sacrifice. On this day, it is traditional for all deacons serving at the altar to wear a liturgical crown (saghavard), which is worn only by priests on other days of the year. In this instance, the crown is a symbol of martyrdom. An example is shown in the photo below, from last year's service at the Armenian Patriarchate in Jerusalem.

Join us as we honor our St. James deacons with a traditional and unique commemoration, which will take place at the end of the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service.
